Murphy awoke with the memory of David’s kiss. She touched her lips, reliving the tingling feeling.

Somehow, it seemed a disservice to call it such a small word as “kiss.” A world-altering exchange of sensuality on the deepest level possible? Yeah, that was more accurate. Lucky she had a two-bedroom place. She’d been on the verge of grabbing him by his collar and stalking to her lair to have her way with him. Fortunately, they’d both recognized it wasn’t the right time. A niggling regret flitted across her mind before she smashed it. No need to hurry. She enjoyed foreplay and the anticipation that led to what she suspected would be high quality, blow-her-mind sex.

Throwing off the covers, she hopped in the shower. Dressed for the day, she prepared for the potentially awkward “morning after-ish” conversation. She hoped not, because David was fun to be around and she didn’t want to ruin that part of their rapport. She opened the door and the most delicious smell of coffee and frying bacon assaulted her senses.

David was in the kitchen at the stove. She stopped and leaned against the doorjamb to take in the picture. Had a man ever cooked for her? He looked damn sexy in khaki pants, shirtless, wearing a pink chef’s apron. One of her friends had given it to her as a joke, because Murphy was not a “pink” person. Sexy man in pink. Who would’ve thought?

“Good morning.” She walked over to the full coffee pot, pulled down a mug from the cupboard above, and poured the rich brew.

He waved a spatula at her. “Hey, breakfast is almost done.” Taking the frying pan off the heat, he placed the bacon on a paper towel he’d put on a plate. He cracked four eggs into a second pan and put four pieces of whole wheat bread in the toaster. “Don’t know if I’ve said this before, but I like a woman who actually has real food in her kitchen.”

“It’s the first thing I restock when I get back in town. I love breakfast.” She sipped her coffee and sighed. So-o-o good. Pulling out a stool, she sat at the counter and enjoyed watching him flip the eggs, butter the toast, and haul down plates for them. Girl, you could get used to this kind of service. And she should’ve known there would be no awkwardness. Not with David.

He brought food-laden plates to the counter and took a place beside her. “Dig in.”

Murphy cut into her fried eggs and took a bite. “Mm, this is wonderful. Thanks for making breakfast. You didn’t have to. You’re my guest.”

“No worries. I like to cook and I woke up in a great mood … for some reason.” He grinned.

“What a coincidence.” She pretended surprise. “The same thing happened to me. Must be something in the water.”

They ate breakfast, chatting sometimes, sharing a comfortable quiet at others.

Murphy dabbed a napkin over her mouth. “That was great and whoever cooks does not clean up, so relax and keep me company while I handle the KP.
